King Louis IX, of France also known as St. Louis was King of France from 1226 until his death in 1270. He was only 11 when he became King, his mother ruled France as regent until 1234 when Louis was old enough to rule himself. He succeeded his father Louis VIII as King. He was known as a Crusader King. Pope Boniface VIII proclaimed the canonization of Louis in 1297; he is the only French monarch ever to be made a saint. Louis IX was succeeded by his son, Philippe III.
The sculpture is a bronze by Gary Mauro and was completed in 2000. It is located near the intersection of Lindell and Olive.
