This marker, at the west end of Marina Way Beach, tells a bit of the very early life in Penticton, when the city was just a village. The setting is circa 1912, before the railway had reached Penticton and the major means of transportation in the Okanagan Valley was the paddlewheelers which ran up and down the lake.

At the dock is the small CPR boat SS York. On the right of the dock is a small barge loaded with supplies for the new village of Penticton. Note the water pipes for the new irrigation and domestic water system on the dock.
The Penticton Hotel, built in 1892, sits on the crest of Vanvouver Hill. Windmills on the beach and on the hill, pump water for the hotel. The rail cars on the barge cannot be moved onto the dock, as there is yet to be a railway constructed. They must be emptied by hand onto the dock.
