This trail makes a loop around Great Head, a small peninsula in Acadia National Park. Parking is at Sand Beach, then the trailhead is east across the beach. You may need to cross a small stream to get to it. The initial climb is steep, then it is realatively level the rest of the way.

This hike goes along bare rock and through some forest. It crosses the shatter zone of the granite lava chamber that makes up most of the island's mountains.
The trail climbs up from the beach along a steep cliff. It follows the cliffs where you can look back at the Beehive. Along the south and east side of Great Head you can see and hear the waves crashing against the rocks. Near the high point of the trail there are the remains of a building. A ranger thought they might have been a tea house. From there you start heading back to where you climbed up from the beach. The trail goes through a lighly wooded area.
