"The Philip P. Bliss Gospel Songwriters Museum is located in Rome, Pennsylvania, in the house where Bliss lived. Bliss is the writer of many favorite gospel hymns such as "Hallelujah, What A Savior," "Let the Lower Lights Be Burning," "Almost Persuaded" and many others. He wrote the music to Horatio Spafford's lyric "It Is Well With My Soul.""

"Although he is remembered mainly for his hymns and gospel songs, Bliss also wrote humorous songs and instrumental music for use in instruction books. Some of his humorous songs were published under the name "Pro Phundo Basso.""

Days and Hours of Operation: The museum is open the second and fourth Saturdays in June, July, and August - afternoons from 1-4, or by appointment. We strongly suggest calling ahead, as the museum is run by a small group of volunteers and if you're coming, we want to be there! The Museum has on exhibition many items that belonged to the Bliss family, along with copies of almost all of his published music. The Rome area was home to a surprising number of hymnwriters in addition to Bliss - James McGranahan, Daniel B. Towner, and others. Although the museum is focused on P.P. Bliss, we have some material on exhibit regarding these other gospel hymn writers."
