After the fire the central fireplace and foundation is all the remained.
The home is being rebuilt. Of course, it won’t really be the same house. What McGregor lost in the fire last year was an irreplaceable piece of history, with stained-glass windows, heart pine floors and elaborate millwork. It was described on the National Register of Historic Places as “a fine example of a hybrid Colonial Revival/Queen Anne style dwelling,” with influences from Louis Sullivan’s Prairie Style, and as “one of the few surviving houses in McGregor from that era that is virtually unaltered.”
“I don’t think there’s enough money in McLennan County to replace all that,” Kirk said. “We’re doing all we can to simulate it, but there’s no way I’m going to tell someone it’s the same as the original. That’s why I call it a replication.
