"Iron black-painted cannon with brass plaque that reads Line Throwing Gun Serial No. 854 HTP Heat Transfer Products, Inc. 90 West Street, New York. Right side carriage with cast lettering Heat Transfer Products, Inc. Left side of carriage with cast lettering 90 West Street, N.Y.C. Barrel has a small touch hole near the plaque and three-option elevating apparatus, utilizing pins in holes, attached to mid-region of cannon. Barrel measurements are 28" length and 3.5" diameter at the muzzle. 35" overall length, 10" width.

West Point graduate David A. Lyle (1845-1937) was the inventor of this type of gun. These guns were used primarily for shore-based rescue operations. The cannon would fire a line to the distressed party and allow for the person to pull themselves back to safety."
