26 meter tall piece created by architect William Alsop in 2000 and completed by the Ontario College of Art Design (now OCAD University) by 2004. The piece is located at:
100 McCaul St, Toronto, ON M5T 1W1
The 'tabletop" towers over the nearby buildings of the college, and serves ostensibly as a rooftop extension of the College. The supports, over 80 feet in length, are coloured drawing pencils, much as one would see in an artist's possession, albeit on a monstrous scale.
The piece has not been without controversy, as opponents say it dwarfs and diminishes the surrounding parkland and buildings. Others say it enhances an otherwise mundane green space.
