Time and nature do not seem to have been kind to these memorial plaques dedicated to the men of Sittingbourne who fell during WWI. But nature does what nature does, and without malice. And maybe, just maybe, judging from the number of exposed plaques that seem to have gone missing, the trees are trying to protect their 'names' from being lost.
"Avenue of lime trees with individual name plaque placed at the foot of each one.
Dedicatory plaque placed at the start of the road and additoinal plaques placed along it.
Plaque reads: Avenue of Remembrance/ 1914 - 1918./ the trees in this avenue were planted and named in/ remembrance of sittingbourne men who fell in the great war."
