Wilhelm I von Hohenzollern (1797-1888) was king of Prussia and, after the transformation of the North Western Confederation in German Empire in 1867, first emperor of Germany.
The statue, larger than natural size, was designed by the sculptor Syrius Eberle and, after his death, by the sculptor Wilhelm von Ruemann. It poses on a stone basement with the inscription
WILHELM I
on the front curved side.
