Corps of Discovery II – Pompeys Pillar, MT, is a 12-inch Lewis and Clark commemorative disk located near the Interpretive Center at Pompeys Pillar National Monument, Yellowstone County, MT. The disk is mounted flush with the surface of a large (about 30 feet across) circular concrete pad that is an extension of a concrete sidewalk that leads southeast from the Interpretive Center. It is set in the center of a simple, 10-foot compass rose. The disk is about 250 feet southeast of the southeast door of the Interpretive Center. The Interpretive Center is about 200 yards southeast of the sandstone outcropping.

The Montana Registered Land Surveyors Association and National Geodetic Survey monumented the disk. It was dedicated during the “Clark on the Yellowstone” national signature event on July 25, 2006, and visited by this correspondent on September 10, 2006. The disk is not in the National Geodetic Survey database as of this writing (it does not have a PID). The disk does not have any identifying stamping other than the standard design elements of the commemorative series of disks: CORPS OF DISCOVERY II – 200 YEARS TO THE FUTURE – PEACE AND FRIENDSHIP.

To reach from Exit 23 off Interstate Highway 94 (about 30 miles northeast of Billings, MT), follow signs for the National Monument and go west on US Highway 312 (MT State Highway 568) for about 0.6 miles to the gravel access road leading to the monument. Turn right and go north on the gravel road for about 0.5 miles to the gravel parking area. Pack east to the Interpretive Center on the east side of the parking area. From the east door of the Interpretive Center, walk southeast for about 250 feet to the large, circular patio on the south side of the sidewalk and the station.

Recovery of this station was first reported at the Geocaching datasheet for station X 394, PID = QV0224.
