Unicov town, one of seven Moravian royal towns, is situated in crossing of Hana plain, the Hruby Jesenik and Nizky Jesenik.
Unicov town was established round 1213 by Vladislav Jindrich, a Moravian margrave. It was approved by his brother, King Premysl Otakar I, in 1223. Unicov town owns the oldest town document in the whole area of Bohemia and Moravia.
Conclusive factor in the town were German colonists that came to the region in the first and second German colonization during a reign of the Premyslids and Lucemburks.
In 1850 the history of Unicov town as a royal town closed. Changes caused in a revolutionary year of 1848 provoked forfeiture of royal privileges of the town.
The biggest break in Unicov town history has turned up after World War II. German inhabitants have been shifted away and a national character of the town has changed.
