The species of sea turtle depicted here feeds on sea grass, and is swimming near sea grass in the sculpture. The sculpture depicts the green sea turtle as four times larger than its real size.

The statue was created by sculptor Kristen Visbal of Delaware. During the statue's placement in 2009, she explained the piece as follows: "We wanted to focus on the children, the future of Atlantic Beach. Also, marine life and the conservation of marine life."
