The Porte Serpenoise is a former city gate in the district of Metz-Centre. It marks the southern boundary of the third century's Roman rampart.
The current Porte Serpenoise was built in 1852, it was a bent tunnel thirty meters through the slope of the southern wall. Outside, a bridge spans the moat fortifications. In 1902-1903, during the dismantling of the walls, the gate was rebuilt and received its present form of an triumphal arch. During the German annexation, the gate was named "Prinz Friedrich Karl Tor" .
