This was a pleasant surprise when photographing the mural and recognizing the brightly painted rooster on the apple box.

The mural is approximately 10 feet by 8 feet and presented in 2009. It recognizes the Canadian-Portuguese community for their major contribution to the economic, social and cultural development of the community.

In a colorful mix of red, green and blue, it depicts a Portuguese orchard worker picking apples in an Osoyoos orchard. Many Portuguese families immigrated to the region, beginning in 1955 and they became major players in the fruit and agriculture industry.
