Many, many years ago our little town had a business district not far from where you are standing. It was also known as "Cat Alley", and a grist mill, saw mill, tannery, blacksmith shop, book publisher and even a clothing store resided there.
At the outlet of the dam on Silver Lake, the water power provided by the rushing stream was essential to what industry small town Vermont could off. Barnard remains much as it was in those days
