"For 130 years, Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital has delivered high-quality health care to patients in the twin tiers region of New York and Pennsylvania. Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital was established in 1885 to meet the health care needs of those working in the Sayre, Pa railroad yard. Academics are a distinguishing characteristic at Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital, dating back to 1901 when the School of Nursing was founded. The Donald Guthrie Research Foundation started in 1942 and with funds from the Emily Guthrie Estate the Guthrie Research Institute was formed in 1980. Guthrie's commitment to learning and education includes the Internal Medicine Residency program in 1958, General Surgery Residency program in 1959, and the Family Practice Residency program in 1993. Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital is now a 254-bed tertiary care teaching hospital serving the southern tier of New York and the northern tier of Pennsylvania."
