The railway station of Domodossola opened in 1888. It was the terminal station of the line Milan-Domodossola. With the opening of the Simplon tunnel in 1906 the line was extended to Brig, Switzerland, and Domodossola became an international station. An additonal narrow gauge line to Locarno opened in 1923. The station is used by about 1.4 million passengers each year.
