A 6' by 6' by 3' bronze statue of Benjamin Franklin is seated on a 3.5' by 7' by 4.75' slightly downwardly flared granite base. The sculpture was created by Paul Wayland and cast by J. Arthur Limerick Company. It was installed in front of the Silas Bronson Library and dedicated on June 3, 1921.
Benjamin Franklin sitting on a backless bench. He is wearing a period overcoat with large cuffed sleeves that extends over the back of the bench. He holds a cane with both hands vertically between his legs. Under his left hand is a copy of Poor Richard's Almanack. A book and a tri-cornered hat rests on the bench on his right side.
The front of the base is inscribed:
