An 11' high figure of a moustached Union standard bearer stands with his right foot slightly forward atop a 15' high shaft of a granite monument with a 7' by 7' square base. The soldier is wearing a cap and short jacket with an open collar. He has his right hand on the handle of his sword, which hangs from his left side. He left arm is wrapped around a flag pole.

The dado on the front of the monument has the dedication:

TO THE PATRIOTISM OF THE MEN OF
DUTCHESS AND COLUMBIA COUNTIES
WHO SERVED IN THE 128TH REGIMENT
IN THE CIVIL WAR 1861-1865
---------------------------
TILL THE FAME OF OUR FATHERS
HAS MELTED AWAY
TILL THE STARS OF THE DEAR
OLD BANNER ARE SET
TILL THE COLD OF THE SUNLIGHT
IS SPRINKLED WITH GRAY
