This obelisk is dedicated to the diplomat Ferreira d'Almeida who was born in Faro in 1847.

It stands near to the Marina of Faro and was erected in 1910, eight years after his death.
He had a long period of office as minister of naval affairs. During this time he founded a naval college and promoted the fishing industry.
The monument has a brass relief plaque of Ferreira d'Almeida on one face and a number of inscriptions on the other faces of the obelisk.
