"On August 25, 1877, religious services were held at the school house in northwest Cullman with a view to the organization of a Baptist Church. August 26, 1877 was fixed as the day for organization with 7 members. P.M. Musgrove was elected the first pastor of the church and the name was fixed as “Baptist Church of Christ” at Cullman, Alabama. The church began planning for the erection of a church building on April 7, 1878. On May 2, 1880, the new church was dedicated.

"Since 1877, a lot of things have changed at Cullman First Baptist Church. However, some things have not changed. The church is still very missions-minded, a teaching, reaching, caring and sharing church, featuring the uncompromised truth preached from the pulpit. For 138 years, First Baptist Church has faithfully proclaimed the good news of Jesus Christ and demonstrated His love to this city." ~ Church Web Site
