Construction began on May 28 1754, and the church was completed in late baroque style on October 16, 1763. The architect František Antonín Grimm from Brno drew up the design, Master bricklayer Antonín Slovácek from Židlochovice erected the building.
The church is out of the common run first of all with exalted facade with a tower. On the shield of the tower hangs the badge of Dietrichštejn.
The decoration of the church uniformly comes from the 1860s. On the main altar there is a monumental picture of St. John the Baptist being beheaded painted by the Brno painter Josef Stern from 1762. In the altar attachment there is a picture of God the Father sitting on his throne on high. There are two pairs of opposite altars in the church nave.
The following participated in the decorative work: the painters František Pilz and Johann Steiner, sculptures Jan Nesmann, Václav Böhm, František Ondrej Hirnle and František Gallaš. Jan Výmola constructed the organ in 1767.
