Benchmark set by the U.S. Geological Survey in 1929. The benchmark is located along the trace of an early version of the old Century Drive (today’s Cascade Lakes Hwy).

DESCRIBED BY NATIONAL GEODETIC SURVEY 1942 44.8 MI N FROM ODELL LAKE LODGE. ALONG ELK LAKE ROAD, 4.9 MILES NORTH OF ELK LAKE RANGER STATION. 400 FEET WEST OF BRIDGE OVER TREE CREEK, 100 FEET EAST OF BRIDGE OVER SMALL CREEK. 20 FEET WEST OF CENTER LINE OF ROAD, IN LARGE LAVA OUTCROP.
This description is out of date but the location is correctly shown on the USGS South Sister quadrangle. From the Devils Lake Trailhead follow the Elk-Devils Trail (#12) for about a half mile joins the old road trace. Follow the old road northward for about 300 feet and turn westward on another road trace for about 200 feet. The BM is in large lava outcrop. Look for painted “BM” on side of outcrop. Cap is on top of outcrop about 10 feet south of the painted “BM”.
