In Australia, the Community Torchbearers programme allowed the Australian general public to nominate people who were notable for their achievements or worked for the common good. Through this programme, 6,000 torchbearers were selected from among a total of over 43,000 nominations. (visit link)

This Olympic Torch, used on day 80 (Saturday, 26th August, 2000) for the transfer of the Olympic Flame, holds an obvious "pride of place" in Russell Saunders "Deep Water Shark Gallery" art gallery in 36 Peveril Street, Tinonee.
