On Mt. Desert Island, within Acadia National park, is this cairn found along the walkway to the visitor center at the main entrance.
The entrance is off of Maine Route 3. I believe that you do not have to have a park pass to enter the visitor center, but you will need to have a pass purchased either here or other designated locations to continue into the park. From the parking lot, walk up the walkway to the visitor center entrance. The cairn is on the right.
The cairn is a low, uncemented structure, about a foot high. There are two stones as the base, then a wide, flat stone on them, and a small stone centered on the wide stone. It appears to be made from igneous (granitic) rocks. There is a small sign next to it that has the following:
