Mr. Cranford appears to be the only one buried in this plot, which is enclosed by a well-maintained fence. The obelisk stands ten feet in height, with the emblem of the Freemasons, and the family name is on the plinth. The inscription is:

V.D. Cranford

Born
Aug. 31, 1838,

Died
Aug. 19, 1891.

On one side of the monument is this epitaph, the first four lines of which have been weathered by time and the elements, but which appear to be:

We miss thee from our home, dear
We miss thee from your place
A shadow o'er our life is cast
We miss the sunshine of thy face

We miss thy kind and willing hand
Thy fond and earnest care
Our home is dark without thee
We miss thee everywhere.

Also, near the obelisk is a government-issued Confederate grave marker, of gray granite, with this inscription:
