"Land of Enchantment" is the New Mexico State Nickname. This sign is yellow, like the New Mexico flag, and flanking the welcome message are red and green chili peppers, the State Food. The color of the peppers also refers to the State Question, "Red or Green?"
There is no indication as to why visitors are slapping stickers on the sign.
