Tower Trail
Many Sides of the Tower
No two sides are alike. Notice how the Tower's appearance changes as you walk through the boulder field and the ponderosa pine forest. From the eroded columns on the south to the smoother north side, the Tower has many faces. On the west side, the fallen, broken columns tell the Tower's future.
The 1.3 mile (2-km) paved trail loops around the base of Devils Tower. After a steep first hundred yards, the trail becomes moderately rolling. Average walking time is 45 minutes.
Anyone going above the boulder field must first obtain a permit
Be Careful on the Tower Trail
• wear good walking shoes and take water with you
• Avoid poison ivy
• Do Not approach rattlesnakes.
