This bridge has actually been moved to this location, but it is one of the oldest of its type in AL. It was moved here in 1990.

This one span covered bridge is 60 ft. long and 10 ft. wide and is visible from I-20. It is to the east of the Oxford Lake and Civic Center building. At one time, it was the only covered bridge visible from a major highway in AL.
Built prior to 1850, possibly as early as 1839, this is one of two surviving covered bridges in the state built in the modified Kingpost style (around 200 total built). Information says that it was built by a former slave. Except for a brief period in 1920 when the bridge was being repaired after burning, the bridge was in continual use.
