It is at the bottom of a hedge next to a national cycle path called the Guild Wheel.
"The Preston Guild Wheel is a 21 mile "Greenway" that encircles the city of Preston, linking the city to the countryside. It is both a walking and cycling route.
Built by Lancashire County Council with the support of Preston City Council and the significant input of volunteers from the Guild Wheel Users Group, the Guild Wheel has been created as a lasting legacy for the 2012 Preston Guild. The route will provide a valuable and on-going commemoration of the Guild, benefiting Preston residents and visitors alike for years to come."

At this point the path is next to the Millennium Ribble Link, a modern day canal built to connect the isolated Lanacaster Canal, and the rest of the UK's linked canal system via the River Ribble.
The duck was carved by Thompson Dagnall who had the following to say about it...
"Community lead project for the Guild wheel Preston.
As a result of local school workshops We came up with the idea of a “Broody Duck” Hiding in the undergrowth at the side of the Canal along the Ribble link stretch of the Guild Wheel."
