EN: Laufenburg has been extended to a fortified city in 1207 by Count Rudolf II von Habsburg. The suburb of Wasen was fortified around 1270.
Of the medieval city fortifications of Laufenburg remain four towers and two remnants of the city walls, one north of the church on one of the towers, the other in the Hinterer Wasen in the southwest of the old town.
The Powder Tower is north of the church and was probably built around the year 1480.
The Wasen Tower at the Gerichtsgasse is probably a construction of 1692/93 on the ruins of its predecessor.
The architectural history of the Schwertlisturmin the west of the old town is not clear. It was probably in the 13th century, the upper two floors could have been but also added in the 14th century. In 1600 it was modernized and in 1914 the lower four floors have been converted into a transformer station.
The most famous is the Wasen tower in the south of the Old Town next to the castle ruins. It is one of the landmarks of the town. The age is not known; it was renovated in the 16th century and modified in the 19th century to a prison.

Von den mittelalterlichen Stadtbefestigungen Laufenburgs existieren von vier Türme und zwei Reste der Stadtmauern, einer nördlich der Kirche an einen der Türme anschliessend, der andere in hinteren Wasen im südwesten der Altstadt.
Der Pulverturm steht nördlich der Kirche und wurde vermutlich um das Jahr 1480 erbaut.
Das Wasentürmchen an der Gerichtsgasse ist vermutlich ein Neubau von 1692/93 auf den Ruinen seines Vorgängers.
Die Baugeschichte des Schwertlisturms im Westen der Altstadt ist nicht geklärt. Er entstand vermutlich im 13. Jahrhundert, die oberen zwei Stockwerke könnten aber auch im 14. Jahrhundert hinzugefügt worden sein. Um 1600 wurde er modernisiert. 1914 wurden die unteren vier Stockwerke zu einer Transformatorenstation umgebaut.
Der bekannteste ist der Wasenturm im Süden der Altstadt neben der Burgruine. Er ist eines der Wahrzeichen der Stadt. Das Alter ist nicht bekannt; er wurde im 16. Jahrhundert renoviert und im 19. Jahrhundert zu einem Gefängnis ausgebaut.
