In Boston's Hyde Park neighborhood, is Fairview Cemetery, which has a Civil War Monument on a hillside.

The cemetery is located near the intersection of River Street and Turtle Pond Parkway. The access road goes to the administration office. From there take the right road up the hill. The Civil War monument will be on the left side.

The monument is of a bronze statue of a soldier walking, with the gun casually carried on the right shoulder.

The bronze plaque on the front have the following text:

"Erected by the
Town of Hyde Park
1911
In honor of those of its
citizens who served their
country in the Army and Navy
of the United States in the
War for the
Preservation of the Union
and the
Cause of human liberty
1861 - 1865"

There were wreathes laid at the base of the monument at the time that I visited.

There are also canon barrels on either side of the monument. There is a pile of cannon balls also nearby. Behind the monument are graves of Civil War veterans, decorated with flags.

The sculpture was made by Melzar Hunt Mosman and cast by Gorham Company.
