While visiting the State Capitol, far above our heads, we found these two lions, located at the southwest and southeast corners of the building extension on the south side of the capitol building. The lions are facing east and west, guarding the capitol dome.
They overlook a lovely oval plaza which has numerous monuments and historical plaques. This capitol building was completed in 1917 and stood without a dome from that time until 2002, when a dome was completed.
