The monument is a bas relief located just outside the Vermanes Garden along the sidewalk running parallel to Krišjana Barona iela (street). It depicts Wilhelm Ostwald sitting in a chair with his right knee crossed over his left knee and his right hand resting on his right knee. His left arm is resting on a table next to the chair he's sitting on. He appears to be gazing at a book and some chemistry paraphernalia on a shelf in front of him. The following inscription in Latvian is on the oval frame surrounding Ostwald:
