This steel hornet on a wine leaf is located in the center of a traffic circle in the west of Hornussen. The insect has a lenght of about two meters.

The hornet is an unofficial mascot of the municipality, because the name of the insect is almost homonymous to the town name in the local dialect, but the real etymology is completely different.
