An article in the Egret, the Newsletter of the Essex County Field Naturalists Club by Paul O'Hara talks about this trail marker and others in southern Ontario including some photo's.
The tree is located in a Conservation area, and is at a turning point in the natural trail. The tree is a Shagbark Hickory tree and has been noted by locals for many years for its unique shape.
