O distrito de Évora tem um elevado número de barragens, algumas delas relativamente extensas: Para além da barragem do Alqueva, no Guadiana, há ainda a Barragem de Monte Novo, na ribeira de Degebe, a Albufeira de Torres, na ribeira de Azambuja, a Barragem da Vigia, num afluente da ribeira de Pardiela, a Barragem de Lucefece, na ribeira de Lucefece, a Barragem do Alvito, na ribeira de Odivelas, a Barragem de Nossa Senhora da Tourega, na ribeira das Alcáçovas e a Barragem do Divor, na ribeira do Divor. De registar ainda as muitas barragens e açudes mais pequenos, espalhadas pela vasta planície.

A rede hidrográfica do distrito de Évora é marcada pela existência de três bacias hidrográficas, sendo a bacia do rio Guadiana a que mais território ocupa. Os seus afluentes são uma série de ribeiras que, em geral, correm de noroeste para sueste e desaguam na margem direita daquele rio (Degebe, Álamo, Azebel e Lucefece), e na margem esquerda recebe a ribeira de Alcarache, que vem de Espanha, correndo de es-nordeste para oes-sudoeste. O lado ocidental do distrito esplana-se entre as bacias hidrográficas do rio Sado, a sul e do rio Tejo, a norte. Para o Sado correm alguns pequenos rios e ribeiras como o Xarrama e ribeiras de Odivelas, Alcáçovas, São Cristóvão, São Martinho e Marateca, entre outras; para o Tejo, correm as ribeiras de Canha, Lavre, Vide, Divor, Raia e vários outros pequenos cursos de água.
