Once the site of first flour mill in Pierce County, flour from here was marketed under the "Golden Cresent" brand. The Pierce Mill was destroyed by fire in 1908, rebuilt, the mill dam was destroyed by flood in 1924. Flour milling was and important pioneer industry in Nebraska. The mill ponds also provided recreation including fishing, swimming, and ice skating. Small mills processed locally grown grain, provided jobs, and brought customers to patronize the stores of the hometown merchants.
