Principia College is the site where Bernard Maybeck designed the houses and buildings for the college. He was a noted Arts and Crafts designer.

The building and houses were constructed between 1931 and 1946. 11 of the buildings are still standing today and in use. The site was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1993. Bernard Maybeck was an American architect in the Art and Crafts Movement. Most of his design were built in California.
