Long Description:
Famous British surveyors Charles Mason and Jeremiah Dixon surveyed this area in 1765 and set a series of boundary stones in this complex border area between the states of Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Delaware.

In 1849 a taller dressed tangent stone for a survey line was set next to the original rounded foot-tall Mason-Dixon stone. Later, this 1849 Tangent stone would be assigned the NGS PID JU3840. The NGS datasheet referenced JU3840 being placed next to the Mason-Dixon stone.
