The Duke was born in 1454 in Darlowo, Poland. His father was Eric II, Duke of Pomerania-Wolgast, his mother was the duchess Sophia of Pomerania. He initiated the reconstruction of all castles in the principality. In 1478 united all Duchy of Pomerania. In 1496–98 travelled to Jerusalem as a pilgrim. He died in Stettin in 1523.
