"Bågskytten (The Archer)
Area: Djurgården
Placing: Liljevalchs konsthall (1919)
Artist: Carl Milles
Material: bronze, granite
A 12-metre high stone column bears a black granite eagle. On the eagle’s back stands the athletic figure of a man with a stretched bow. The eagle, an ancient symbol of power, was one of Milles’ favourite motifs. The Archer, which can be interpreted as human imagination, shows influences from the French sculptor Antoine Bourdelle’s sculptures on the same theme at Waldemarsudde, where there is also a smaller version of Milles’ archer, erected in 1913."
