This is one of several markers that NY placed to show the route of the Sullivan-Clinton campaign in the Revolution

text: "Battle of Chemung August 13, 1779 General Sullivan's troops were attacked by Indians posted on this ridge A valorous charge led by Colonel Hubley drove the Indians to the swale a quarter mile west The American dead were conveyed to Tioga and buried at Fort Sullivan Erected by the State of New York 1929"
