Mr. Tippit's modern, gray, granite headstone has detail on it to give it a clamshell motif. It is flanked by two granite vases, and the family name, "Tippit", is on the reverse. On the front is couple on a path to the gates of Heaven, and underneath is "Married Sept 14, 1944" on a scroll. As of this posting, the second Mrs. Tippit is still with us, but space is prepared for the future:

Mary Lee Daniels
September 26, 1919

Mr. Tippit's personal information is:

Edgar Lee
January 26, 1902
February 24, 2006

He was the father of Officer J.D. Tippit, a forgotten casualty of the events of November 22, 1963. After Lee Harvey Oswald fled Dealey Plaza, he was stopped by Officer Tippit in Oak Cliff, as Oswald was a match for radio reports regarding a suspect in the presidential assassination. Oswald was walking along Tenth Street, and Tippit questioned him through a lowered window in his patrol car. After Tippit left his vehicle to question Oswald further, Oswald shot Tippit three times, followed by a fourth shot to the head after Tippit fell to the ground.

Significant events in his lifetime include:

1912 - Lawrence Oates, a member of Scott's South Pole expedition, leaves the tent saying, "I am just going outside and may be some time."
