The Prinsesse Ragnhild was a passenger ship of the Norwegian shipping company "Det Nordenfjeldske Dampskibsselskab" ( NFDS ) that carried on the Hurtigruten along the Norwegian coast 1931-1940. On 23 October 1940, the Prinsesse Ragnhild was destroyed just after departure from Bodø. There had been an explosion and the ship sunk within 8 to 10 minutes.
Overall there were 455 people on board.
50 crew members, 75 civilian Norwegen people and 330 Germans.
299 people lost their lifes.
Just beside the Hurtigruten pier you can find this memorial.
At the bottom of the sculpture they placed the shipbell of the Prisesse Ragnhild.
