The beautiful grounds of Woodland Cemetery are designed in the style of a New England Cemetery. Over sixty acres of land are rich with history dating from before the Civil War.
A tombstone dedicated to the United States Colored Troops can be found near the entrance of the cemetery just besides a historical marker and a pole with the American flag.
On the front of the monument is written:

DEDICATED IN GRATEFUL MEMORY
UNITED STATES COLORED TROOPS
¨ONCE LET THE BLACK MAN GET UPON HIS PERSON THE BRASS LETTER, U.S.,
LET HIM GET AN EAGLE ON HIS BUTTON AND A MUSKET ON HIS SHOULDER AND
BULLETS IN HIS POCKET, THERE IS NO POWER ON EARTH THAT CAN DENY THAT
