The booklet was erected in October 2002 on the centenary of Australia's Federation. It is kept closed by a rubber handle & when opened it is like reading a book. There are historical photographs, newspaper clippings & first hand written accounts. Sandy Flat was a village in its earlier years with the Northern Railway stopping at a siding. Today it has a fire brigade & scattered farm houses with the railway long closed & lines removed.
The front page has an account & historical photographs of a train derailment near Sandy Flat which happened on May 2nd 1928 & this historical theme continues with each page.
