A "You Are Here" sign is placed at the Waihohonu entrance off the Desert Road through the Central North Island. A short metal track leads through sandy tussock land to the sign at a small clearing that is the parking area. From here a walking track leads to the Waihohonu hut and continues on the Northern Circuit tramping track. Day Walks to the Old Hut and nearby Ohinepango Springs also begin at this point.
Caution: Leaving vehicles in this carpark overnight can be a risky decision, it is better to be dropped off and picked up by someone. There is a high risk of vandalism and theft from vehicles in this lonely spot.
