Proper Description: "Obelisk-shaped limestone with carved relief of family scene, war, death and ascending into heaven images. Set of bronze plaques inscribed with names of St. Louisans who lost their lives in World War II. Plaza area surrounded by limestone walls which hold red granite plaques that are inscribed with names of those who died in World War II (16 slabs/plaques, with names listed alphabetically). Center of Plaza has grass area flanked north and south by shrubs, east with reclining red granite plaque inscribed with names of those lost in Korean war, west with those lost in Vietnam." ~ Smithsonian American Art Museum

Remarks: "Donated by St. Louis War Memorial Committee. Commissioned for an estimated cost of $100,000. Architect Eugene J. Mackey, Jr. and architectural firm Murphy & Mackey were responsible for the plaza design" ~ Smithsonian American Art Museum
