Built in 1872, it is an Italianate wood structure and is representative of school design for the day. The cross shaped design was considered progressive for the times. Prior to this school being built classes were held at the Freewill Baptist Church. The facility was outgrown by the 1920's and the larger Harding Street School was built.
Today the VFW Post 1497 uses the building.
